Personality: Valerius is a proud Imperial. As a member of Garlean high society, he was raised as a reflection of his storied family. Since the early days of the Republic, the Regulus family have served the people of Garlemald faithfully and dutifully. To this day, their service in both military and political institutions affords them an aristocratic status among the populace. Valerius is no different, since he was a young boy he had been groomed for military service. Private academies, the best martial and scholastic mentors money could buy, all were an integral part of his upbringing. By all measure, he was a model Imperial, patriotic and unwaveringly loyal. By the time he came of age, Valerius was sent off to a military academy in the Imperial Capital where he excelled. He displayed leadership skills far beyond his years and a penchant for violence that would put the most brutal of Garlean Death Squads to shame. In fact, he thought only of ridding the world of the vile "savages" for much of his life. He holds but one true love, his family. After his wife was killed in battle at the hands of the Eorzean Alliance, his disdain for the savages grew into a black-hearted hatred. His young daughter survives her mother and he has taken to pouring his extra energy into raising her himself.
Imperial Dossier
Valerius was born into a family with a prestigious lineage within the Empire. The Regulus family has served since the early days of the Republic. From Military to Political institutions, members of the Regulus family hold office in each. Valerius was raised to keep his proud lineage in mind, cementing is unwavering patriotism.
Valerius grew up on his family's vast estate located just outside of the Imperial Capital. Since he was a boy, he has lived a life of privilege. Access to the best martial and scholastic tutors money could buy, all were provided to him. As with many of his high society peers, Valerius was sent to a prestigious academy reserved for those of the purest lineage. When he came of age, he was sent to a military academy in the capital. Here he succeeded, ultimately graduating and receiving a commission as a Centurio (Centurion).
The newly minted officer spent the start of his career assigned to Nael van Darnus' VIIth Legion. From participating in counter insurgency operations in Dalmasca to leading subjugation missions in Nagxia, the man proved himself a capable warrior and leader. He spent years serving as a Centurion in the Far Eastern theater and earned a reputation for being a cold-hearted monster responsible for untold atrocities committed against the local populace. His peers, hailed him as an example of what a true Imperial should be. Valerius was content with his lot in life, dedicating himself to the Empire and thinking of nothing other than fighting to wrest control of lands from their savage parasites. It was only after meeting Laelia, his now deceased spouse, that he truly started to experience the feeling of loving something. Serving as a field medic herself under the banner of the VIIth Legion, Laelia accompanied Valerius' Cohort throughout Othard. After receiving a promotion from his success in the East, Valerius returned to Illsabard with Laelia where they were married a short while later.
Not long after their union, the Regulus heir and his new bride welcomed their firstborn, a daughter which they named Julia. The next two years were among the happiest Valerius had ever experienced. Surprisingly, he took to family life well and found purpose beyond devoting himself to serving the Empire. This would be short lived, however. The year that marked the end of an Era would also herald the darkest moment in his life.
When the VIIth Legion marched on Mor Dhona by way of Ala Mhigo, Valerius and Laelia answered to their solemn duty. The Battle of Carteneau displayed the horrors of war firsthand to both of them. In a cruel twist of fate, Laelia met her end at the hands of the enemy, a savage Valerius so detested. When the bloodstained man gazed upon the visage of death, Dalamund hailing the end of the era, he wished only to go quietly and join his beloved. Against all conceivable odds, he survived. Sustained by his burning rage and pure hatred for the savage enemies of the Empire, Valerius retreated to Ala Mhigo. He was quickly assimilated into the ranks of the XIVth Legion and placed under the command of Livia sas Junius. Valerius accompanied Junius to the East, where he faithfully carried out his duties and slaughtered the insurgents of the Royal City of Rabanastre. The very same campaign that earned Junius the nickname, "Witch of Dalmasca".
Years passed and his brutality grew ever worse. His participation in the massacre of Dalmascans and various other Othardians blackened his soul. When his work had been concluded, Valerius returned to Illsabard with commendations and a brand new promotion. Finally having found time to grieve the loss of his dead wife, the broken Garlean found solace in the last remaining gift he had of her, their daughter. The short few months he spent at post in the capital served to deepen his bond between parent and child but did little to alleviate his bloodlust. His wife was killed and his daughter was left without a mother. When the War of Succession broke out following the Emperor's death, Valerius backed Varis. When the rightful heir ascended the throne, he was assigned to the VIth Legion under the leadership of the Varis loyalist, Regula van Hydra. He came to respect his new commanding officer and looked to him as everything he aspired to be. When the Emperor and his VIth Legion returned to Erozea in search of Azys Lla, the fabled Allagan relic, Valerius was counted among Regula's loyal officers.
After the events of the Azys Lla campaign end with the death of Regula and a painful blow to the Empire, Valerius accompanied the surviving members of the VIth Legion back to the homeland with their fallen commander's body in tow. Prior to the withdraw of the VIth Legion, Valerius was awarded the rank of Tribunus Militum. He retained this rank as he returned to the capital.
Currently, the Empire finds itself embroiled in a new civil war. Varis' death and the disappearance of his heir apparent, Zenos, has left a power vacuum desperate to be filled. Disillusioned with the strive and politics, Valerius and members of the Regulus family elected to depart the continent while the infighting is resolved. Arriving in an unspecified area of Kugane, a long forgotten vacation home has become the current residence of the Regulus estate. With family secured and the political strive of the Empire left at home, Valerius took the opportunity to relegate his talents to aiding the Garlean Embassy in Kugane. His true motives however, remain a mystery....

Garleans:
Legion Officers: Valerius is always interested in maintaining open dialouge and communication amongst his peers. His belief that the Empire's strength is derived from it's martial cohesion reinforces his desire to maintain working relationships with military officers across the spectrum. Of course, his xenophobic attitude is likely to cause some friction to those of non-pureblood descent.
Friends/Allies/Lovers: His anti-savage attitude reserves this category for pureblooded Garleans only, unfortunately. Though, if you think your character is equal to the task of changing his views, I welcome you to try! All potential romance is to be predicated on a carefully built narrative. Nothing rushed, but if that's going to be your interest from the start, I would be happy to discuss details. Either way I would like the story to develop organically.
Citizens/Other Service Personnel: Garleans from all facets of society are welcome and appreciated. From artisans, to engineers, medics and public servants. Valerius is always happy to interact with his countrymen no matter their rank.
Defectors: One of his undisclosed reasons for taking up in Kugane has to do with this hook. Valerius is actively looking to hunt down and eliminate all Garlean-born defectors. With the traitorous stain left by ranking members of the XIVth Legion, it becomes increasingly necessary for him, in his own mind, to weed out defectors. This will be carefully planned out in the event this is a hook we decided to explore. Death, injury and detainment only by EXPRESSED permission of the respective characters' players. Conversely, if your Garlean defector wishes to persuade Valerius to defect himself, that could be fun!
Non-Garleans:
Kugane and Doman Natives: Perhaps your character is interested in learning about the Empire and her people. Or maybe Valerius visits your place of business. He's currently in the Far East, so characters inhabiting this region are free to suggest some ideas!
Conscripts/Loyalists: Is your character a conscript from an Imperial annexed land? Perhaps they are simply a loyalist offering their support? All are welcome, even if Valerius may skip calling them a friend.
Spies: Part of his purpose in the East requires a...quieter touch. Have information or skills that could be of use to Valerius? He'd be willing to pay for both.
Enemies: Rivals, an arch-nemesis or a vengeful encounter from one of his past atrocities. Doubtless Valerius has made many enemies during his bloodsoaked service.
